We are continuing our deep dive into the Stella Adler technique on the studio floor, and this week we tried an amazing experiment. We gave every single actor the exact same set of physical instructions. The catch? They had complete freedom to build the world around those instructions by choosing their own character, location, and given circumstances.

It is incredible to see how the exact same prompt can completely transform based entirely on an actor’s imagination. Adler taught us that our imagination is our most vital tool, and this exercise proves exactly why. Even when the technical instructions remain identical, the scene changes completely because no two actors will ever build the same world or bring the same truth to the floor.
Itβs a beautiful reminder that you don’t need to fit into a mold. Your unique imagination is what makes your performance completely your own.
