If you are 99% committed to the scene, the camera will zoom in on that 1% of hesitation and blow it up on a 40-foot screen.
Yesterday in Acting for Film, we learned the most important lesson of the craft: Total Commitment.
Whether you are playing a sleek politician, a heartbroken lover, or channeling a wild animal—you cannot “sort of” do it. You have to burn the boats. You have to jump off the cliff and trust that the wings will grow on the way down.
When you hold back to “stay safe,” you become boring.
When you commit 100%—even if it feels risky, even if it feels “too much”—you become magnetic.
Sanford Meisner said, “You can’t be a little bit pregnant. You’re either pregnant or you’re not. You’re either acting or you’re not.”
Yesterday, you guys stopped “trying” and started being. You left it all on the floor. That is the only way to work.
